Elizabeth L. Stout; Longtime Valley Resident

Elizabeth L. Stout, a longtime resident of the San Fernando Valley, has died in Tarzana. She was 100.

Mrs. Stout died Saturday of pneumonia, her son, Arnold Stout, said.

She was born Elizabeth McCruden in Hannibal, Mo., on Feb. 16, 1890. In 1910, she married Ben Stout, who died in 1930. She did not remarry and raised the couple’s five children alone.

Mrs. Stout moved to California in 1956 and settled in Van Nuys. She was a parishioner at St. Elisabeth Catholic Church in Van Nuys for many years. She lived independently until she was 92, when she moved into a Tarzana convalescent home.

She is survived by her sons, Arnold Stout of Reseda, James Stout and Ben Stout of Milwaukee; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great granddaughter.

A graveside service was held this week at San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills. A memorial Mass is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 18115 Sherman Way in Reseda. J.T. Oswald Mortuary in Reseda handled the arrangements. Contributions can be made in Mrs. Stout’s name to the charity of the donor’s choice.
