From Times Staff and Wire Reports

‘Green’ Antifreeze to Be Sold: Chief Auto Parts Inc., a Texas-based company with stores in Southern California and the Southwest, will begin selling an environmentally safe antifreeze. Long used in industry, the product, made from propylene glycol rather than the standard ethylene glycol, is reported to be equally effective in car radiators but not poisonous to humans or animals. Standard antifreeze is a major cause of death for cats, particularly, because it tastes sweet to them. The new antifreeze, which costs about $1 more than the old, will also be easier to dispose of, being a nontoxic substance.
