Man Arrested in S.D. Wanted in Arizona
Police arrested an Arizona man Thursday who apparently drove to San Diego after sexually assaulting a woman and stealing her car earlier in the day, police said.
Timothy Stephen Mitchell, 20, of Phoenix, has been booked at the County Jail on suspicion of unlawfully taking a vehicle and is being held on $100,000 bail, a jail spokeswoman said.
Extradition proceedings are pending, San Diego Police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
About 5 p.m. Thursday, officers were looking for a car that had been involved in a hit-and-run accident, when they stopped the car driven by Mitchell.
Shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday, Mitchell allegedly broke into the home of a 48-year-old woman, sexually assaulted her, stole her car and headed for San Diego, said Phoenix Police spokesman Leo Speliopoulos.
