A two-year investigation has revealed illegal gambling activities at the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 1832 in Huntington Beach, police said Saturday.

Huntington Beach Police Department vice officers bearing search warrants on Friday seized slot machines, poker machines, bookmaking documents and lottery records from the lodge at 7451 and 7453 Lorge Circle. Officers allegedly found $7,000 in cash and gambling receipts listing members, Lt. John Foster said.

The list and a lengthy investigation by Vice Detective Randy Payne revealed that lodge members “were directly involved” with at least one of the illegal gambling ventures, which have taken place “over the last several years,” Foster said.

But police Saturday could not provide a figure for the profit they say the lodge made from the gambling.

No arrests have been made and no charges filed in the case. Investigators are seeking complaints from the Orange County district attorney’s office, Foster said.

Contacted at the lodge Saturday, Jim McAndrew, administrator and the highest ranking officer of Moose Lodge No. 1832, acknowledged that he is among those under investigation.

He declined to say how many members belong to the fraternal order’s Lorge Circle chapter.

McAndrew said the Lorge Circle lodge raises money for such charities as the Blind Children’s Learning Institute and sponsors the Special Olympics.

Foster said the investigation was prompted by several citizen complaints about the lodge, located in an industrial area of the city.
