From Times staff and Wire reports

A man killed his sister and wounded a cousin in a shooting at a vineyard-estate owned by comedian Tom Smothers, who was away at the time, Sonoma County sheriff’s deputies said. Less than an hour after the shooting, a man identified as Gustavo Pureco, 25, of Santa Rosa surrendered at the county jail and was booked on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. Deputies said Pureco apparently was angry because his sister, 18-year-old Eva Pureco, had recently moved out of his house and had gone to live with other relatives at Smothers’ 25-acre hilltop Remick Ridge estate. The woman was shot twice in the chest with a .45-caliber pistol, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Chuck Laver. The cousin, Ismael Calderon, was hospitalized in critical condition.
