Nation IN BRIEF : RHODE ISLAND : Grandmother Jailed in Custody Dispute
A grandmother was jailed after a contempt-of-court hearing in Newport, R.I., because she will not say where her daughter and granddaughters have been for five years in a child-custody fight. Mary Pigeon, 77, has denied knowing where they are. She was sent to the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston. Superior Court Judge Mark Pfeiffer said she would remain in prison until she talked. He has ruled that Pigeon aided the abduction of the girls and conspired with her daughter, Elaine Yates, to keep them from their father, Russell M. Yates Jr.
