Man Charged in Burglary, Is Linked to 35 Others

A Monrovia man who police believe may be responsible for as many as 36 home burglaries over the past two months has been charged with one count each of residential robbery and burglary, officials said this week.
Larry D. Stewart, 34, was arrested last Thursday after Monrovia police spotted him carrying cash in his hand near a house that had just been burglarized, police said.
There is “strong evidence” linking Stewart to the rash of break-ins that have occurred while the residents have been at home, officers said. None of the victims were harmed.
Authorities said homes in the area were being burglarized at a rate of about one a day. The string ended when Stewart was arrested, police said.
Stewart, who was recently released on parole after serving a prison sentence for burglary, has pleaded not guilty and was being held in County Jail, police said.
