Newly elected trustees for San Pedro Peninsula Hospital Foundation are: Juanita Chavez, an attorney; Al D’Amico, a real estate broker and owner of D’Amico & Associates; Genether (Bud) Hudson, a district office manager for the San Pedro branch of the Automobile Club of Southern California; Glenn Hughes, an international relations specialist contracted by the Port of Los Angeles; Andrew Marincovich, president of Marincovich and Hickerson Accountants; Paul R. Nevans, a certified public accountant; Dr. Herbert H. Webb, a lung specialist, and Rae Wyman, an attorney. Also joining the board is Richard Corian, the grants assistance director for the Office of Instruction with Los Angeles City Schools, who is serving one term as an ex officio member.

Ed Castillo, a certified cardiovascular technologist, has joined Little Company of Mary Hospital as manager of cardiology services. Castillo was most recently employed at Santa Monica Hospital, where he managed cardiology, radiology and nuclear medicine services. He has also been manager of cardiac services at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles.

Retired USC music Prof. Anthony Vazzana’s composition “Linea” is scheduled for its worldpremiere Nov. 14 in Vienna. The solo for French horn will be presented by the Southwest Chamber Music Assn., which commissioned the one-movement work from the Manhattan Beach resident. Since his retirement in May from USC, Vazzana has devoted his time to composition. On Aug. 10, his “Concerto Sapporo” for euphonium and orchestra, commissioned by the International Tuba/Euphonium Society, was premiered in Sapporo, Japan, by the Sapporo Symphony. Vazzana has also received two other commissions: one for a symphonic band to premiere in Texas and a piano concerto to premiere in New York City in 1991.

Dr. Arnold Plank, assistant superintendent of the Torrance Unified School District, has been elected president of the Rotary Club of Del Amo. Serving with him as directors are Larry Nakahara, Gene Harden, Bill Larsen, Rich Cornwall, Wim Lamers, Dave Warren, Steve Wolowicz, Bob Popeney, Jim Tracy and Pete Pettler.

Audrey Johnson is the new president of Pilot International Club of Torrance. Serving with her as board members are Marilyn Boutault, president-elect; Peg DeJaifree and Diana Bell, secretaries, and Ruth Sturgess, treasurer. Other board members are Mary Martinez, Mae Sleep and Ruth Brugger. The Pilot Club is a service organization. One of its projects was to help furnish a room at the Torrance Police Department for use in interviewing or as a temporary shelter for battered or deserted children. Currently, the club is working with the Harbor Teen Post, collecting items such as radios, typewriters, televisions and bicycles for the teen-agers to repair or reconstruct after school and on weekends.

Dr. Derek Rodrigues of Hermosa Beach has received a second-place award from the Greater Los Angeles affiliate of the American Heart Assn. for his research on a new method of measuring heart function in relation to blood supply to the heart. Rodrigues was one of 18 doctors who presented papers recently at the Heart Assn.’s annual Laverna Titus Young Investigators Forum. He is affiliated with Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance and with St. John’s Heart Institute at St. John’s Hospital and Health Center in Santa Monica. His project was conducted at the Research and Education Institute at Harbor-UCLA.
