Passenger traffic at all five county Amtrak stations increased during the second quarter (April through June) of this year over 1989’s comparable period. This is due in large part to the increase in weekday daily stops at each of the stations (except San Clemente) that went into effect June 1. Trains made 16 daily stops at the Anaheim, Santa Ana, San Juan Capistrano and Fullerton stations through May 31; they now make 18 stops on weekdays. There are still three daily stops in San Clemente. Here’s how this year compares to last in the number of people boarding and leaving Amtrak trains in the county:

* Second Second Increase in Increase in Quarter ’90 Quarter ’89 Number Percent San Clemente 10,006 7,176 2,830 39.4 Anaheim 129,143 120,998 8,145 6.7 Santa Ana 217,153 216,740 413 0.2 San Juan Capistrano 232,638 227,931 4,707 2.1 Fullerton 234,639 212,411 22,228 10.5 TOTAL 823,579 785,256 38,323 4.9
