LOCAL : Autopsy Awaited in Baby’s Death
Authorities remained baffled today after the discovery of a dead newborn girl found in a restroom of the Orange medical facility.
Administrators at UCI Medical Center has sought the public’s help in finding the baby’s mother, but so far no one has contacted the hospital with any information, a hospital spokeswoman said.
“We have nothing new to report,” Fran Tardiff said this morning, adding that she did not know if there were any new leads in the case.
The unidentified baby’s body was found by a custodian at 1 p.m. yesterday in a women’s restroom near the emergency room area, hospital officials said.
Hospital administrators did not know if the baby was born in the hospital and left to die.
Tardiff said investigators hope results of an autopsy scheduled for this afternoon will provide them with clues.
“We’re waiting for the autopsy (to be completed) like everybody else,” Tardiff said.
