The Long Beach Symphony Orchestra will return...

The Long Beach Symphony Orchestra will return to the Terrace Theatre on Saturday for its 1990-91 season. Music director and conductor JoAnn Falletta will return for a second season.

Musical masterpieces by composers such as Dvorak, Bartok, Stravinsky, Mozart, Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Copland will be performed. The season premiere performance will consist of “The Miraculous Mandarin” by Bartok, Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in G Minor, and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 in E Minor. Elmar Oliveira will be the featured violinist. Future performances will be Nov. 10 and in 1991 on Feb. 2, March 23, April 20 and June 1. Long Beach Symphony Pops performances will be Nov. 3, Feb. 9 and June 15.

Falletta is music director of the Denver Chamber Orchestra, the Bay Area Women’s Philharmonic and the Queens Philharmonic. The only U.S.-born female music director of a major orchestra in the United States, Falletta is in great demand as a guest conductor nationally and internationally.

All concerts will begin at 8 p.m. with pre-concert lectures beginning at 7 p.m. The Terrace Theatre is at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center, 300 E. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach.
