Portugal President Tells Plans for Jan. 13 Election

LISBON —
Portugal will hold a presidential election Jan. 13, a spokesman for President Mario Soares has announced.
Soares, elected in 1986, is widely expected to run again but has yet to announce his candidacy. His term expires in March.
