Share

Current sophomores at Laguna Beach High will need to take additional math, art or language, history and geography classes to graduate with the Class of 1993, the school board has decided.

Students now must take two years of math, three years of history and one year of fine arts or foreign language to graduate. Beginning in 1993, students will need three years of math, 3 1/2 years of history and two years of fine arts or foreign language.

Starting in the fall of 1992, students also will be required to show a demonstrated computer proficiency. Administrators also beefed up elective requirements, mandating that at least one math or humanities-oriented class be included among a student’s elective courses.

Classes that have been dropped from the graduation requirements include Choices and Challenges, a class about peer pressure, and a world cultures class. The number of units needed to graduate will remain at 230.
