LOCAL : Abandoned Waif’s Mother Held

A woman was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder for abandoning her newborn baby girl in a plastic bag in a barn behind her house in Altadena, authorities said today.

The nearly full-term infant was in stable condition at Huntington Memorial Hospital, where her mother was also hospitalized under a police guard until she is well enough to be moved to the County-USC Medical Center jail ward.

Officials at Huntington called sheriff’s deputies after Susan White, 37, sought medical treatment Sunday afternoon for complications stemming from the birth, sheriff’s Deputy Chris Wahla said.

White put the baby in a plastic bag and left her inside an empty barn behind the house at 162 E. Las Flores Drive where she and her mother lived, Wahla said.
