TENNIS ROUNDUP : Austria’s Skoff Beats Bruguera
Horst Skoff of Austria needed 2 1/2 hours to beat Sergi Bruguera of Spain, 7-6 (10-8), 7-6 (7-4), Sunday in the final of the Geneva Open at Switzerland.
“The longer the match went on, the better it was for me since he was getting tired physically,” said Skoff, who had a 6-2 lead in the first-set tiebreaker.
Guy Forget, who had wanted to withdraw because of his father’s death earlier in the week, defeated Yugoslavia’s Goran Ivanisevic, 6-4, 6-3, to win a $300,000 tournament at Bordeaux, France.
Cecilia Dahlman of Sweden defeated Italy’s Katia Piccolini, 7-5, 7-5, to win a $75,000 women’s tournament at Athens.
