ANAHEIM : Hearing on Complex for Seniors Tonight

Share

The City Council will hold a public hearing tonight on a proposed senior citizen apartment complex in the western part of the city.

The 85-unit complex is planned for a 1.56-acre plot on South Gilbert Street just north of Ball Road. The developer is asking for 15 more units than normally are allowed on a piece of land that size.

The city Planning Commission approved the proposal on the condition that the developer install a decorative, graffiti-resistant block wall around the complex and put in security gates to protect both parking areas.

The developer has complied with those stipulations and is seeking council permission to build the complex at the higher density. The proposal would also let the developer waive the minimum yard-size requirement, granting permission for the yards to be at least five feet smaller than is usually required.

There are existing senior apartments to the north and east of the parcel being reviewed, and commercial shops sit to the south and west.
