City Council Panel OKs $998,390 Fund for LATC

To carry Los Angeles Theatre Center through the end of its current season in January, the City Council’s Community Redevelopment and Housing Committee voted 2-1 Monday to recommend approval of $998,390 in Community Redevelopment Agency funds.

The vote restored $520,390 set aside for debt and tax payment, to the Community Redevelopment Agency appropriation. In an August vote, the CRA board had recommended approving only $478,000, for building operating costs through January, on the grounds that further debt and tax payments should not be authorized until a commission studying the future of LATC submits its report to Mayor Tom Bradley on Oct. 1.

But Councilman Richard Alatorre moved to authorize the full amount. His motion was supported by Gloria Molina. Zev Yaroslavsky cast the dissenting vote.
