Share

Police are looking for witnesses to a fatal car crash that occurred early Sept. 9.

A 17-year-old Anaheim male was arrested in connection with the collision, but police say conflicting stories from the drivers involved have hindered their investigation of it.

Toni Marie Fatone, 38, of Anaheim, was killed when the 1988 Suzuki Samurai she was riding in was broadsided by the youth’s 1981 Ford Escort. The 2 a.m. crash occurred at the Orangewood Avenue and Brookhurst Street intersection.

Fatone, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car and died at the scene of head injuries. Linda Wendt, 32, of Norwalk, who was driving the Suzuki, suffered minor injuries.

The 17-year-old, who had been involved in another accident only minutes earlier, was arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving, assault with a deadly weapon and murder. The murder charge has since been reduced to manslaughter, Investigator Mike Clabaugh said.

Anyone with information can reach Clabaugh at (714) 741-5823.
