Judge’s Son Pleads Innocent in Holdup
The son of a federal judge pleaded innocent Friday to one count of committing a robbery of a taxi cabdriver in downtown San Diego.
Earl Kenneth Gilliam, 33, son of U.S. District Judge Earl B. Gilliam, was arrested Tuesday along with Anthony Booth, 37, also known as Anthony Ragsdale.
Gilliam and Booth were ordered to remain in County Jail downtown in lieu of $50,000 bail by San Diego Municipal Court Judge Gale Kaneshiro.
According to court documents, the younger Gilliam is a possible suspect in other unsolved robberies.
The judge’s son has recently worked for the City of San Diego as a stock clerk and lived with his mother in La Jolla. Court records also say he returned from Houston, Tex., in November, 1989, following a stint in a drug rehabilitation program.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 11 and a bail review for Sept. 26.
