Ralph E. Ramsey; Gravel Trucking Firm Owner

Ralph E. Ramsey, past president of the Sun Valley Kiwanis Club and owner of a San Fernando Valley gravel trucking business for 20 years, has died at a Northridge hospital. He was 77.

A 30-year resident of Van Nuys, Ramsey died Wednesday of a heart attack, said his wife, Vivian Ramsey.

Born in Hastings, Neb., Ramsey moved to North Hollywood in 1941 and worked during World War II in the experimental engineering department of the Lockheed Corp. in Burbank. In 1947, he started a gravel trucking firm called Ramsey’s Trucking, which he operated until his retirement in 1967.

He was president of the Sun Valley Kiwanis Club in the late 1950s.

In addition to his wife of 56 years, Ramsey is survived by daughters Jane Smith of West Hills and Karen Bohrer of Oxnard; brother Meryle Ramsey of Davis, Calif.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

At his request, no services will be held. Aftercare California Cremation and Burial Society in Van Nuys is handling the arrangements. Donations can be sent in Ramsey’s name to the American Cancer Society.
