Clerk Uses Toy Gun to Scare Off Bandits
A clerk at a Ventura convenience store thwarted two would-be robbers by threatening them with a toy gun and then chasing them down the street, police said Saturday.
The men entered the Arco AM-PM Mini-Market in the 11000 block of Citrus Drive at 1:05 a.m. Saturday and demanded money, according to Ventura police reports. One man kept watch at the door while the other pointed a rifle at the clerk and forced him to open the cash drawer, the report said.
When the second man leaned over to look into the drawer, the clerk grabbed the rifle with one hand and pulled a toy gun from beneath the counter with the other hand.
The men fled from the store, and the clerk followed but could not catch them, police said.
