HUNTINGTON BEACH : Library Gets $56,400 for Literacy Project
The city’s Central Library has received $56,400 in federal and state grants for its literacy program.
The program helps people of all ages and educational backgrounds to read and write.
Last week, the City Council accepted $25,000 from the U.S. Department of Education and $31,400 from the California State Library. The federal grant provides money for staffing, computer equipment and supplies in the Central Library’s new Computer Learning Center. The computer additions will aid literacy training, library officials said.
In a written report to the City Council, city Library Director Ron Hayden said: “This instruction will supplement the current literacy program by providing one-on-one and small-group instruction in use of the microcomputer and video programs for adult and teen learners.”
