Four Soviet athletes who failed drug tests have been banned from track and field for two years and deprived of the honorary title, “Master of Sport.”

Among the athletes who tested positive for steroids was Jana Manuilova, a member of the Soviet junior women’s 1,600-meter relay team. The others were listed by the daily sports newspaper, Sovietsky Sport, as L. Cherevko, A. Petukhov and S. Ivanov. The newspaper did not give their first names or specialties.
