President Mike Stone of the Texas Rangers resigned today, effective Nov. 30, so the club can pursue “new marketing directions.”

“Most of what I wanted to accomplish with the Rangers’ organization has been achieved,” Stone said. “I am extremely proud of the progress the franchise has made toward the realization of many shared dreams.”

Stone did not say why he is leaving, but general partner George W. Bush said Stone’s resignation will “enable the club to focus on new marketing directions.” He did not elaborate.
