Raisin-able Layoffs: Will Vinton Productions Inc. revealed the first layoffs in its 15-year history Wednesday, but the California Raisins’ creators call it a needed pruning that won’t leave the company shriveling on the vine. “There were some layoffs, but for very positive reasons,” said Sandi Serling, director of public relations for Vinton’s Portland-based Claymation studios, known for its fanciful, lifelike movie and TV creatures. Serling said about 25 workers were told last week they will be let go and rehired on a project-by-project basis at higher pay rates.
