SHORT TAKES : Heart Singer Intends to Adopt

Ann Wilson, the lead singer of the rock group Heart, said she’s going to adopt a baby and raise it as a single parent.

“I have a lot to give a child, and this has the overwhelming support of my family,” Wilson said in a statement.

Wilson said she decided to publicly announce her intentions because a national tabloid was planning to reveal the news in a “sensationalized, distorted way.”

“When my child grows up, I don’t want him or her ever to have to question the facts behind the adoption,” Wilson said.

The child will be born in late February.

Wilson and her sister, Nancy, form the genesis of Heart, a band known for its hard-driving rock ‘n’ roll sound in hit singles of the mid-70s, like “Barracuda” and “Magic Man.”

They are currently on the charts with their “Brigade” album.
