GM to Offer Free Paint Jobs: The auto maker’s dealers will offer to repaint about 324,000 vehicles that may have had their coats damaged by ultraviolet light, the company said. Paint on some of the vehicles has flaked because ultraviolet light penetrates the top coat and damages the primer. General Motors will inspect and repair about 230,000 1987-90 Chevrolet Berettas or Corsicas painted sapphire blue, silver or gun-metal gray at no charge. Also to be repaired are about 93,500 1988-89 Chevrolet S-10 Blazers, S-10 pickups, GMC S-15 Jimmys and S-15 pickups painted bright blue, dark blue or gray metallic. The repair policies are valid for three years from the date the vehicle was placed in service. Owners who already have paid for paint repairs will be reimbursed.
