Ralph E. Duewer; Retired Bank Manager

Ralph E. Duewer, a retired Glendale bank manager, died Thursday of cancer at his home in La Canada, said his stepdaughter, Christie Alexander. He was 75.

Born Sept. 13, 1915, in Morgan County, Ill., Duewer graduated from Illinois College in 1937 and moved to California in 1940. He retired in 1977 as vice president and manager of the Glendale branch of Security Pacific National Bank. His career with the bank was interrupted twice when he left to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War, achieving the rank of captain.

Duewer was a member of various Kiwanis clubs, including the Glendale chapter; the Glendale Chamber of Commerce; and the Verdugo Club. He served on the board of directors of Glendale Adventist Medical Center for many years and was recently acknowledged on their Wall of Honor.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Ruth Duewer; stepdaughter Christie Alexander of South Pasadena; and a step-grandson and step-granddaughter.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Peace Chapel of Kiefer & Eyerick Mortuary, 314 E. Harvard St. in Glendale. Burial will be private. Donations can be made in Duewer’s name to the Boys Republic, Chino, Calif. 91709, or the Glendale Adventist Medical Center Foundation.
