South El Monte : Ban on Smoking Urged

Share

City Director of Human Services Connie McFall is urging the City Council to ban smoking in the city’s public buildings.

In a letter she read to the council last Thursday, McFall urged the ban because “cigarette smoking and secondary smoke are now recognized as major health problems.”

Noting that senior citizens are especially vulnerable to cardiovascular and lung diseases, McFall urged that the Peter F. Schabarum Senior Citizens Center be designated the first smoke-free building. She said this “would be a significant first step” toward reaching the larger goal.
