More than 150 people who flew to London on an unauthorized flight from Syria have asked for political asylum, officials said. The Egyptian ZAS airline DC-9 carrying 156 passengers, including about 60 children, landed at Gatwick Airport. “They have all asked for asylum and . . . we are speaking to all of them on an individual basis,” a government spokesman said. It was unclear where the asylum-seekers came from, but some press reports speculated they are Kurds from the Persian Gulf region.
