Share
From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The government has asked Belgium, the country’s former colonial ruler, for military aid against rebel refugees invading the Central African nation from neighboring Uganda. A dusk-to-dawn curfew has been imposed in Rwanda as the invaders move south along the main road to Kigali, landlocked Rwanda’s main trade link to the outside world. Belgian Foreign Minister Mark Eyskens confirmed receipt of the request--unconfirmed reports said a similar plea was made to France--and hinted at the possibility of sending troops.
