Suspected Drunk Driver Crashes Car
A man suspected of drunk driving crashed into another car on the Santa Ana Freeway early Sunday, injuring himself and several others.
A California Highway Patrol spokesman said that Jose Luis Saavedra, 25, of Santa Ana, suspected of being intoxicated, was driving north on the Santa Ana Freeway at a “high rate of speed” about 1 a.m. Sunday when he rear-ended another car north of the Main Street off-ramp in Tustin.
The car, driven by Jay Shaver, 47, of Whittier, went out of control, hit a signpost and overturned down an embankment. Shaver was uninjured but an unidentified passenger sustained serious injuries and was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.
Saavedra was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange. His three passengers suffered minor injures.
