Nation IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Agency to Pay for Mayor’s Headboard
Employees of New York City’s Human Resources Administration have done at least $13,000 worth of work at the official mayor’s residence, Newsweek magazine reported. The magazine said that a $11,500 headboard for Mayor David N. Dinkins’ bedroom was delivered to Gracie Mansion last week as Dinkins, in the face of a huge municipal deficit, proposed laying off 15,000 city employees and raising taxes. Newsweek said that the mayor’s staff ordered the cherrywood headboard and that the social welfare agency, was billed for almost the entire cost.
