Max H. Tripp; Retired Operating Engineer

Max H. Tripp, a retired operating engineer and longtime Antelope Valley resident, has died in Lancaster. He was 82.

A resident of Lancaster, Tripp died Monday of cancer, his son, Gene (Chub) Tripp, said.

Born June 12, 1908, in Lincoln, Neb., Tripp came to California in 1936. Beginning in 1946, he worked as an operating engineer for several companies in the Los Angeles area and Antelope Valley, retiring from McDonnell Douglas Corp. in Palmdale in 1975. Tripp had been a member of the Elks lodge in Burbank and the Grange in the Antelope Valley.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Tripp; sons Gene Tripp of Bakersfield and Dick Tripp of Twain Harte, Calif.; a daughter, Mary Nay of Burbank; a sister, Miriam Elterman of Studio City; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Halley-Olsen Funeral Chapel, 44802 N. Date Ave. in Lancaster, which is handling the arrangements. Donations can be made in Tripp’s name to the American Cancer Society.
