PRO FOOTBALL REPORT : WEEKDAY UPDATE : RAMS : Defense Simply Hasn’t Jelled

Share

The Rams started last season 5-0. How does it feel to start 1-3?

“This is different because I don’t think we’ve ever been together defensively yet,” Coach John Robinson said. “Last year, we had it together and then sort of fell out of it, as a whole team. We’ve generally gotten off to good starts, but this year we’re not. We’re just not playing defense in a competent fashion.”

The Rams and their opponents are either tied or within one point or a yard in 15 categories, including: points, Rams 111, opponents 111; total net yards, 1,555 to 1,556; touchdowns passing, 10 to nine; touchdowns rushing, four to four; completions, 84 to 84; total plays, 255 to 256; average yards per play, 6.1 to 6.1; and sacks, nine to eight.

Injury update: Robinson said he thinks nose tackle Alvin Wright (knee injury) and wide receiver Aaron Cox (hamstring injury) will be ready for Sunday night’s game against the Bears at Chicago. Cornerback Darryl Henley (hip injury) is still “about a month away.” Linebacker Larry Kelm (knee injury) is scheduled to return to practice today on a limited basis.
