A North Park woman was seriously injured when she was struck by a car Thursday in Hillcrest, police said.

Denise Louise Wix, 36, of the 3700 block of Grim Avenue was struck by a car driven by a 16-year-old San Diego High School student who failed to stop as Wix and a friend were crossing Pershing Drive near University Avenue.

Wix was listed in critical condition at Mercy Hospital with head injuries and cuts. Her companion, Bibana Garces Cabanging, 55, of the 1300 block of Twining Avenue was treated for bruised ribs and other bruises.

The accident occurred shortly after noon when three students in a car driven by the 16-year-old boy were returning to school, police spokesman Bill Robinson said. They were headed west in the 2700 block of University Avenue. The women were walking north on Pershing Avenue, en route to a restaurant.

A vehicle to the left of the car carrying the students stopped at a marked crosswalk but the Toyota failed to stop and struck the women. The car carried the women 20 to 30 feet, Robinson said.

No citations have been made, pending an investigation.
