Tax Increase Small Price to Pay to Stop Canyon’s Development
Re B. Lewis and A. Snow’s letters (Oct. 7) on Orange County helping with the purchase of Laguna Canyon, we suggest visiting the canyon before making such irresponsible statements.
The comment of depriving students so a handful of people can chase butterflies shows complete ignorance about one of Orange County’s last remaining wildlife habitats. This magnificent canyon is home to a large variety of wildlife, many of which are on the endangered species list. Students can learn more by field trips to this sanctuary than by science textbooks.
Laguna Canyon is not a park; it is a natural resource. All taxpayers have a responsibility to protect resources and ensure that everyone has access to local areas to learn and enjoy Mother Nature’s wonders in their natural state.
We will gladly write a $2 check to the county each year, which should cover Lewis’ and Snow’s share of this five-year “tax burden” to save Laguna Canyon for the enjoyment of all.
