COSTA MESA : 3 Stabbed, 3 Sought in Traffic Dispute

Three male suspects remained at large Monday in connection with a stabbing incident that left a Costa Mesa man under intensive care and two of his two companions wounded, police said.

The 1:10 a.m. stabbings apparently were prompted by an argument between two carloads of men driving down Harbor Boulevard and turned violent when they stopped to fight in a parking lot, Costa Mesa Police Lt. Sam Cordeiro said.

“The victims and the suspects got involved in a traffic dispute and pulled over to fight it out,” Cordeiro said. “Everybody got out of the (two) cars and the victims were stabbed during the melee.”

The fight occurred at 2750 Harbor Blvd., police said.

Vincent Brault, 28, of Costa Mesa suffered multiple stab wounds and was listed in stable condition Monday in the intensive care unit at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.

Brault’s companions, Matthew John Thomas and Howard Albert Goulet, both of Lodi, were treated at College Hospital Costa Mesa. Police said Thomas was stabbed once in the left side and Goulet suffered a slash on his right arm. The hospital would not release further information.

Cordeiro said the three victims were not armed.

The suspects, described as three males between the ages of 18 and 25, are being sought on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. A description of the suspects’ vehicle was not available.
