VILLA PARK : Public Hearing on Civic Center Tonight

Share

About 100 people are expected to attend tonight’s public hearing on controversial proposals to expand the civic center, including one plan that would move the city’s offices to a residential area, City Clerk Kaysene Miller said.

The City Council is expected to reach a decision after hearing public testimony on the issue, which has sharply split the community. The debate has focused on how much expansion is needed and whether it should occur at the present site--17855 Santiago Blvd. One plan proposes moving the center to a residential area located at Villa Park Road and Center Drive at a cost of up to $3 million, Miller said.

A questionnaire recently mailed to the city’s residents shows 76% of the 1,984 respondents support expanding the current site by up to 6,000 square feet at a cost of no more than $600,000. The public hearing is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the civic center.
