Paramount : Leffingwell School Gets Reprieve Until June, 1991

The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to allow Leffingwell Christian School, which had been ordered to move, to remain open until June, 1991.

Two weeks ago the council denied the junior and senior high school a conditional use permit needed for a private school to operate in a neighborhood of mostly single-family homes. Paramount took the action after residents complained about congestion and the potential for gang and drug problems.

The school had moved from Norwalk to Paramount several months earlier and had been holding classes at the First Assembly of God Church at Orizaba Avenue and Monroe Street.

Principal John Clark said of the council’s decision, “Obviously we were pleased because we thought they (the council) might close us down at the end of this semester or even immediately.” Clark added that the school now has the time to look for another location and explore other legal options.
