Caterpillar Inc.: The heavy equipment manufacturer said third-quarter earnings plunged 50% to $54 million on revenue that rose 6% to $2.8 billion. The Peoria, Ill., company attributed the drop in net income to lower unit sales volume and an unfavorable currency exchange rate related to its Brazilian operations.
