Computers: Maynard, Mass.-based Digital Equipment Corp. said its third-quarter earnings plunged 83% as overseas business slowed and clients awaited new products. The company earned $26.2 million on revenue of $3.09 billion, down slightly from the same period a year ago. Apple Computer Inc. said fourth-quarter income totaled $98.5 million, down 39%. Revenue fell 2% to $1.4 billion. Net income for the year rose 5% to $474.9 million on revenue of $5.6 billion, also up 5%. The Cupertino, Calif., firm said the year-ago results included $48 million from the sale of stock in Adobe Systems Inc.
