Amoco: The Chicago-based oil company said third-quarter earnings totaled $530 million, up 58% from $336 million a year earlier. But the quarter includes a $149-million gain from the sale of an operation in Britain, while the year-ago quarter included $100 million in charges for environmental and work-force reduction programs. Without the special items, earnings would have slumped 13%, the company said. Revenue was $7.9 billion, up 20% from $6.6 billion a year earlier.
