Altadena : Defunct Library to Open

Share

The branch library at 2659 Lincoln Ave., defunct for 12 years, will reopen next September, Altadena Library District trustee Stephen Bridal told the Town Council last week.

District Librarian Bill Tema said the branch was closed in 1978, in the wake of Proposition 13. Until two years ago, the building was leased to the Handyworker Program, a federally funded project for low-income senior citizens.

Now the Altadena Library District, which runs a literacy program, has received a literacy grant of about $65,000 a year from the state, enabling it to restore and reopen the library.

The branch will be renamed the Arroyo Seco Branch Library and Literacy Center. The Altadena Library District is independently managed by a locally elected board of trustees.
