Irvine’s Andy Carlson finished second, 13 seconds behind, as Mike Pigg of Arcata won his third U.S. Triathlon Series national title at Boulder City, Nev.
Pigg covered the 31.9-mile course in 1 hour 56 minutes 20 seconds. He also won the championship in 1987 and 1988.
Pigg lost the series title when Santa Clara’s Harold Robinson finished fifth and ended with 1,972 points, eight ahead of Pigg.
Erin Baker of Boulder, Colo. won the women’s division with a time of 2:16:47. Joy Hansen’s second-place finish gave her the series title.
