IN DEMAND: There are about 130,000 Southeast Asians in Orange County with about 1,000 more arriving each month. Yet trying to recruit them as cops is so tough that officers like Binh Nguyen are “worth their weight in gold,” says Westminster Police Chief James Cook (A15). It’s partly mistrust of authority, partly a legacy of war, says Nguyen: “With the potential for danger and violence, they turn away from it. They are tired of fighting. They have been living with it for decades.”
