Defenseman Chris Chelios, benched earlier in the week for poor play, had a goal and three assists for a personal-high four points as the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Minnesota North Stars, 7-1, Sunday night at Chicago.

Goalie Jacques Cloutier, also in Coach Mike Keenan’s doghouse for ineffective play, stopped 24 shots for his first victory of the season. Cloutier lost his shutout with 2:47 remaining on a goal by Mike Modano.

Chicago improved to 6-4-0. Minnesota is 0-6-1 in its last seven games, and 0-7-2 at Chicago Stadium since March 28, 1988.

After Keith Brown scored his first goal of the season 2:12 into the game, Chelios scored his third of the season at 13:04. It was one of four power-play goals by the Blackhawks.

Chelios also set up Jeremy Roenick’s power-play goal at 17:29 and fed Steve Larmer, who scored his seventh of the season 40 seconds into the second period for a 4-0 lead.

Chelios, who was benched on Tuesday in Detroit by Keenan, added his third assist at 7:49 of the middle period, setting up Trent Yawney’s power-play goal.

Calgary 2, Edmonton 1--Brian MacLellan and Theoren Fleury scored second-period goals and the Flames limited the Oilers to 16 shots on goal at Edmonton.

The Flames controlled the tempo and outshot Edmonton, 31-16.

Vancouver 3, Quebec 2--Steve Bozek, the Canucks’ fourth-line center, scored at 10:51 of the third period to break a 1-1 tie and scored again five minutes later for Vancouver at Quebec.

Bozek took a shovel pass and beat goalie Ron Tugnutt with a low shot, and then made the score 3-1 at 16:11 by putting a loose puck into the net.
