Antonio Loya; Co-Owner of Insurance Agency

Antonio Loya, co-owner of a Burbank insurance agency and a community activist, has died at his Burbank home. He was 72.

Loya died Friday of a heart attack, said his daughter, Dolores Hinkle.

Born June 13, 1918, in Deming, N.M., Loya came to California as a child and graduated from North Hollywood High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean War, achieving the rank of master sergeant. He worked as a traffic engineer for the city of Burbank for about 17 years and in the early 1960s began selling insurance. In the late 1960s, he opened Loya & Associates, an insurance agency that also handled tax and immigration matters.

Loya was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Cabrini Council; the Exchange Club in Burbank; American Legion Post 150 in Burbank; a member of the board of directors of the Salvation Army in Burbank and a member of a city architectural review board. He was active with the American Red Cross in Burbank and was a former member of the Burbank Optimist Club.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lorenza Loya; sons Anthony Loya and Timothy Loya of Burbank and Andrew Loya of Lake View Terrace; daughters Rosemary Mailliard of LaCrescenta and Dolores Hinkle of Henderson, Nev.; brother Arthur Loya of Arleta; sisters Lupe Marten of North Hollywood, Stella Garcia of Lancaster and Rita Luna of West Covina and nine grandchildren.

A funeral Mass is scheduled to be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 133 N. 5th St., in Burbank with burial to follow in San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills. The Valley Funeral Home in Burbank is handling the arrangements. Donations can be sent to the Antonio Loya Memorial Fund at St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank.
