San Diego State defeated host UC Irvine, 15-13, 15-5, 12-15, 15-3, in a nonconference match. Gracie Schutt led the Aztecs (16-9) with 19 kills.

UC San Diego defeated host Cal State Dominguez Hills, 15-9, 15-7, 15-5, in a nonconference match. Elizabeth Tan led UCSD (28-7), ranked second in Division III, with eight kills and Vikki Van Duyne had six.

MEN’S SOCCER

Sixteenth-ranked University of San Diego won its eighth in a row by defeating visiting Loyola Marymount, 7-1, in a West Coast Conference game. Leo Ronces scored his seventh and eighth goals of the season for the Toreros (14-1-4). Charles Adair, Paul Gelvezon, Phillip Button, Manny Rodriguez and Toby Taitano also scored for USD. LMU fell to 2-15.

Point Loma Nazarene College went two overtimes before losing to visiting Azusa Pacific, 3-2, in a Golden State Athletic Conference match. Steve Beck and Steve Cokkinis scored for PLNC (6-6-1).

Biola defeated host Christian Heritage, 7-0, in a nonconference match. Biola improved to 8-7-1; Christian Heritage, winless in its last six games, fell to 2-8-1.

GOLF

The Jack-in-the Box Holiday Bowl Golf Tournament begins today at the Stardust Driving Range and runs through Nov. 2. Any amateur golfer over 18 may enter for $1 a ball. The tournament begins with 10 daily qualifying rounds. From 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., golfers can try for a hole-in-one on a specially constructed 125-yard hole. Winners advance to the final round for a chance at $1 million jackpot.
