Road Repair Contract Approved

Share

The Palos Verdes Estates City Council on Tuesday approved a $41,055 contract with Civic Engineering, a Van Nuys firm, to design improvments for a hairpin curve on Via Zurita, where soil is slipping out from under the roadbed.

The curve, which has been the site of at least one fatal accident in the last few years, will probably remain the same in appearance because rights of way cannot be changed, City Engineer Tim D’Zmura said.

The road, D’Zmura said, was built in the 1920s or ‘30s when the requirements of compacting road fill were not as stringent as they are today. The slipping fill has created a depression on the outside of the curve, he said, which needs to be repaired.
